The Spiritist Philosophy teaches that the practice of charity will shape us into more humble, forgiving, merciful, compassionate and loving individuals. We believe that these qualities, in addition to intellectual improvement are the main points to focus on our path for Spiritual Evolution. According to Jesus, charity is not restricted to giving alms, but covers all our relations with our fellow human beings whether inferior, equal or superior. It preaches mercy on our part, because we all need mercy.
Our philosophy of life is "Do good and you will receive good", this is the Law of Cause & Effect. We become happier when we help others, this is the Law of Attraction. As Human beings, we hope for a better life for ourselves, but as Spiritists we hope for a better World, because one day we will return here. This is the Law or Reincarnation.
Curiosity:
In 1728, aged 22, Benjamin Franklin (American writer, scientist, inventor, statesman, diplomat, printer, publisher, and political philosopher) wrote what he hoped would be his own epitaph:
“The Body of B. Franklin, Printer; like the Cover of an old Book, Its Contents torn out, And stript of its Lettering and Gilding, Lies here, Food for Worms. But the Work shall not be wholly lost; For it will, as he believ'd, appear once more, In a new & more perfect Edition, Corrected and amended By the Author.” He believed in reincarnation.
Our History:
On December 20th, 2014, the project 'Loving Bags' for the unsheltered was created in New York City, then in 2017 it was brought to Miami. The initial idea was to create a simple gift bag to donate to few brothers & sisters temporarily living on the streets. Later on, the group embraced it, then more people joined the initial project. It included used t-shirts, socks, new underwear, and other items. In 2017, funds were raised to purchase +100 bags with 13 items in each. In 2020, we created 405 bags, with 20 items in each. In 2021, via a partnership with Tony/Camillus House, we got 600 socks and raincoats to complete their 600 backpacks donations. Together we are stronger!
During the year, many different charitable projects are created to help local communities in need, bringing some relief and improvement to their lives. All our projects are dearly named 'Loving', like 'Loving Bags', 'Loving Cleanup' and 'Loving Performance'. Our past projects helped the Elderly, Visually Impaired, Homeless, Mothers & Babies, and our Environment. Most of our projects are done via partnerships with different Miami nonprofits.
2022 Charitable Projects:
"Loving Bags 2022"
50% for the Miami & 50% for the Ft. Myers (hurricane) unsheltered - This is our oldest project. During the pandemic the situation got much worst. This year goal is 500 bags.
"Loving TEEN Bags" - COMPLETED - In August, VOL gifted 120 teenagers temporarily living at HIS house fostercare a beautiful duffle bag with 13 essencial products. This was a real treat from all of us to them.
